Do we rely on medicine too much?

Whether or not you like him, Michael Jackson contributed a lot to the music world. His left is a big loss for us. While his death also reminds us that do we rely on medicine too much?

One of my friend is working in National company. Whenever she feels uncomfortable she goes to see a doctor and take some medicine back. I was frightened when I saw that she has medicine for heart, stomach, lung, kidney, gallbladder,etc. I asked her " Do you want to open a drug store?"

She's just in her thirties, the good time for a woman. I don't think she can be attacked by so many disease. She's just too tired sometimes. What she needs is to have a rest.

Just reading a book written by a German reporter about the secret of modern medicine, I was shocked, shocked ( sorry I used two "shocked" as I was really shocked). Those big pharmacy manufacturers created many "diseases" to sell their medicine. Today most drugs are promoted by marketing. Talking about marketing, the 1st step is to create needs. More diseases, more drugs. More people get diseases, more drugs will be sold. According to this, the normal human physiological activities also became the diseases such as women's menstruation,children's extra naughty, feeling shy in social activities,etc. Large quantities advertisements and some experts(they are against their conscience and paid by the manufacturer) mislead the masses.

Remember, we're more healthier than what we think. Sometimes we feel uncomfortable that's the protective response of our body protection system.

Believe the God! When he made human beings he designed very well to let us to live healthily on nature food,air and water and adjusting all by ourselves but not on supplements and medicine.

Pear is the best fruit in Autumn. It can moisten lung,promote production of body fluid, eliminate phlegm,relieve a cough, smooth intestines and defecation.

1.Zangxiang theory- The Lung(IV)

Lung dominates the Qi and regulate the water passage of our body. It is delicate,easy to be attached by pathogenic factors.

The physiological functions of the Lung

a. Lung dominates the Qi

- Dominating respiration

The movement of Long Qi is dispersion and descent. Waste air is exhaled out of our body by dispersion. Fresh air is inhaled by descent.

- Dominating Qi throughout the body

When fresh air is inhaled,it combines with the refined nutrient transmitted from spleen and produced Zong Qi(Pectoral Qi). Zong Qi is transported and distributed to the whole body to warm and nourish the internal organs and the tissues of whole body by dispersion and descent of Lung Qi and the heart control of blood.  

- Lung also regulates the Qi activities of whole body. Lung Qi influences the viscera Qi and meridian Qi.

- Lung Qi assists the heart to promote blood circulation. Blood converges in the lung through vessels and then is distributed to all parts of the body. So the lung is connected with all the vessels.

If lung Qi fails to disperse and descent,it'll cause chest oppression,cough and dyspnea. If lung Qi is long term in disorder,it'll affect the production of Zong Qi and the blood circulation and so will cause serious disease.

b. Lung regulates water passage.

This function is completed together with spleen and kidney. Water is absorbed, transformed and transmitted by the spleen,and transported to the lung. By dispersion, part of water is transported to the surface of the body, and after utilized,is discharged out of body by form of sweat,or expelled by expiration. By descent,cleaning and clearing of lung Qi, part of water is transmitted to the viscera and kidney,after utilized,transformed into urine.

If the dispersion and descent of lung Qi is in disorder,the water distribution and discharge will be affected. This will lead to phlegm,rheum, edema and disorder of urination.

Lung Qi also assists the large intestine in transmission. The disorder of Lung Qi can cause constipation. About constipation, please check here:

In TCM,lung and large intestine is a pair. The dysfunction of large intestine also affects lung's function.

The relationships between the Lung and the body, the sensory organs and the orifices

The lung governs the skin,opens into the nose and have its external manifestation on hair.

Lung Qi disperse and transport Wei Qi (refined nutrient) and body fluid to nourish and warm the skin. If the function of Lung Qi is deficient, it'll lead dry sin,profuse sweat and susceptibility to cold. When exogenous pathogenic factors invade the body, they usually attack the skin first,then attack the lung, causing lung Qi stagnated and leading such symptoms as aversion to cold,fever, stuffy nose and cough,etc.

In seven emotions, excessive grief impair lung Qi.

If Lung Qi is excess you may be fear,crying,flying in your dream; if Lung Qi is deficient you may meet metal, weapon, killing people,chicken or duck,etc. in your dream.If it is in Autumn, you may meet fight between two troops.


2. Summer and Autumn Recipes

In Chinese lunar calendar, it already went into Autumn from Aug.7th this year. However, it's still hot,especially in day time. We call this phenomenon "Tiger of Autumn" in folk. Here two dishes with garlic sauces very cool and fresh.

a.Cucumber in Garlic Sauce


2 cucumber,small

1 teaspoon salt

Garlic Sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sugar

5 clove garlic,minced

1 tablespoon chopped red pepper


1. Clean cucumber, cut into 3cm long section, then cut into strips along longwise. Rub salt and marinate till water seeps out from cucumber.

2. Place cucumber strips in a big bowl,add garlic sauce,mix(better rub with hands). Put in a fridge for 60mins(at least 30mins).

3. Take out, arrange in a plate, serve.

Feature: Cool,fresh.

Beneficial Function: Cucumber is one of fat-removing foods. Suitable for obese people.

b.Eggplant in Garlic Sauce


2 egg plant(250g)


5 garlic cloves,minced

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil


1. Clean eggplant, steam for about 20-30mins(when it's easy to insert in the eggplant by a chopstick or fork it's done)

2. Take out,split into strips,arrange on a plate. Add the seasoning,coat well.

3. You can serve in warm, or put in a fridge for 20mins before serve.

Beneficial Function: Eggplant helps to clear heat, promote blood circulation, detumescence, relieve pain, cure ulcer. I remembered one time I fell down and hurt. There are some tumescence and felt pain. I ate some eggplants and then the pain disappeared on the 2nd day. It also cure constipation caused by heat. Eggplant can be used as external application to cure furuncle and carbuncle.


c.Smooth Tofu with Pea


1 block tofu,soft

2 tablespoon shrimp

1/3 cup pea,cooked

1/3 cup corn grain,cooked

1 tablespoon carrot, chopped

1 tablespoon tomato, chopped

1 1/2 tablespoon olive oil

Seasoning A

1 tablespoon onion,chopped

1 tablespoon garlic, chopped

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

Seasoning B

1 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch,mix with water


1. Cut tofu into small cubes,set aside. Clean shrimp,peeled,cut into small section.

2. Heat oil in a wok, add seasoning A, stir or sway the wok till the fragrance comes out.

Add shrimp, pea, corn grain, carrot and tomato, stir fry 3mins.

3. Add 1 cup of water or stock. Add cornstarch(Seasoning B). Stir quickly to make sure cornstarch spreads well.

4. Add tofu, carefully stir well. Simmer for 3mins over low heat.

5. Turn off heat, serve.

Serving Method: Serve with bread,steamed rice as side dish at breakfast,lunch or dinner.

Beneficial function: Pea clears away heat, corn grain moves fat.Tofu is rich in protein while can restrain cholesterol absorption and reduce blood lipid.

d.Duck with White Gourd Soup


1/2 duck or 2 duck legs

1/2 cup white gourd

Seasoning A

{1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon rice wine

1 teaspoon sugar}

Seasoning B

{2 section scallion

2 block ginger

1 teaspoon rice wine

1 star anise}

1/2 teaspoon salt


1. Clean duck,rub seasoning A, marinate for 60mins in fridge. Cut white gourd into thin flakes.

2. Add duck in a pot,add water (3 times of duck),Seasoning B. Bring to a boil,skim the foam. Cook for 60mins over low heat.

3. Add salt,white gourd flakes,cook additional 15min. Turn off heat,let it to stay 5mins.

4. Serve with warm.

Serving Method: Drink soup, eat duck meat and white gourd. Serve as main dish or soup at breakfast, lunch,or dinner.

Beneficial function: Nourish Yin, promote diuresis and eliminate dampness. Suitable for those who are Yin deficiency with symptoms such as night sweat,insomnia,etc.

3. Pear: best fruit in Autumn

Pear is the best fruit in Autumn. It can moisten lung,promote production of body fluid, eliminate phlegm,relieve a cough, smooth intestines and defecation.

In Autumn one day a pear can prevent cough caused by dryness.(shouldn't eat too much).

You can make pear porridge. Cut a pear into small pieces, add rice, water, cook 40-50mins over low heat. You may add some crystal sugar. Eat a mall bowl of pear porridge at breakfast and dinner.

You can make pear drinks. Cut a pear into small pieces, add crystal sugar, decoct 20mins over low heat. Serve as drinks. You can store some in fridge, take out and drink some each day.

Cut pear into strips and put in vegetable salad. This will increase fresh flavor of salad.

Here we have Pear Paste sold in Autumn. It's made by pear,honey and other herbs with moisten function.

Those who are with lung heat,throat pain,dry or itch should often eat pear and related food.

But those who are with abdomen pain caused by cold,or those who are with diarrhea,or pregnance cannot eat pear.


4. About Tea

On the website,I have a page to introduce tea that helps to lose weight. Here it is.

Many friends wrote to me to ask where they can buy these tea. Some of these leaves are not easy to find, especially online. So I decide to setup an e-shop to provide these tea. I've been sourcing these few weeks, hope the e-shop will be up soon.

During sourcing, I tried many different tea. They're really useful in losing weight. Sometimes I only drank very little, I felt my abdomen became flat.
