Phelps' secret of success

Have you watched Olympic games? Then,Phelps must gave you astonished impression. You should admit that he is a hero.

Phelps already become the world's hero now. Who can else win 8 gold medals one time at Olympic Game like him?  Many people think that his success comes from his talent. People analyzed his body and concluded that he has longer waist and short legs, which is the perfect body construction for swimming.

After watching an interview of Phelps on TV, I understand that his talent is just a basic condition of his success. He himself also admited that besides his talent, his love for swimming, his dedication and determination all contribute to his success. He insists on swim training 2-5 hours each day,7 days a week,365 days a year, never stop even on christmas day.

So it's the same with our health. Don't think that you have a strong body, then you don't need to take care of your health. If you don't live a healthy life style(especially when you are young), sooner or later, disease will come to find you.

4. My Story-- Don't eat/drink too much cold/iced food

...Many people like to drink iced water. You may not be afraid of cold. But some of you always feel stomach pain or cough at night, which is also caused by eating or drinking too much cold food. Eating some gingers may feel better. However, the best solution is that never touch cold food/drinks, especially for girls, and especialy during menses.

1. Jing, Qi, blood and body fluid(I)

In Western medicine, the nutriments that we need are sugar, fat, protein, water, trace element, vitamin, in which sugar, protein and fat are substances that provide us with energy.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the substances that maintain our life activities are Jing, Qi, blood, body fluid.

Jing is basic substance composing our body and maintaining life activities. Jing has congenital Jing and acquired Jing.

Congenital Jing is inherited from the parents,nourished by aquired Jing, stored in the kidney. It's original drive and resources of human life activities. The ebb and flow of kidney-Jing reflect the whole body's up and down, forming different (weak or strong) constitution.

Aquired Jing comes from water and other food, generated and transformed in spleen and stomach. It's also called water-cereal Jing at this stage. When water-cereal Jing transports and distributes in various viscera, it's called viscera Jing.

Aquired Jing nourishes congenital Jing, making our body growing and stronger. The ebb and flow of aquired Jing directly affect up and down of Qi and blood, the function of viscera, and the ability of anti-disease.

2. About the 7th month and regimen

The 7th month of Chinese Calendar in 2008 is from August 1st to August 30th, 2008.

In this month, some organs status:

  • The Qi(vital energy) in liver is less.
  • The Qi in heart is less
  • Lung(metal) is becoming active.

Diet should

  • Increase salty food intake such as seaweed, kelp, oyster, sea cucumber, crab, shrimp, jellyfish,most fish,pork,soybean, etc.
  • Reduce pungent food intake such as wheat, mutton, almond, and swamp cabbage,etc.

    This helps to promote Qi, supplement tendon and veins, and culivate spleen and stomach.

We should keep a quiet tempertation.

Knowlege about food: All the food we eat has its own taste attribute:

Sweet: rice, beef,Chinese date,pumpkin,etc. Function: easy up.

Sour: small red bean, plum, hawthorn,etc. Function: converge.

Pungent: glutinous millet, chicken, peach,shallot,etc. Function: dispel.

Bitter: wheat, mutton, almond, and swamp cabbage,etc. Function: dry and solidify.

Salty: soybean, pork meat,kelp,etc. Function: soften.

3. Anna's 7th month Recipes

a. Steamed Pork Rib with Preserved Plum

Ingredients:

250g pork rib

2 preserved plum

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon rice wine

1 teaspoon dry cornstarch

 
Procedure:

1. Clean pork rib, cut into small blocks, add 2 pieces of preserved plum, minced garlic,olive oil, soy sauce,salt, sugar, rice wine, dry cornstarch. Mix well, marinate in 30mins.

2. Arrange the marinated pork rib on a heat-proof plate, put on the drawer of a steamer. Steam for 15-20mins over high heat.

3. Turn off heat, serve after cool down.

Serving Method(5 servings): Serve as main dish at lunch or dinner.

Beneficial Function: Sweet and sour(plum is sour flavor),fragrance. Stimulate appetite, invigorate spleen.

b. Steamed Ground Pork with Preserved Cucumber

Ingredients:

200g ground pork

1 bag/tin preserved cucumber

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon rice wine

1 teaspoon garlic,chopped

1 tablespoon shallot,chopped

1 teaspoon dry cornstarch

1 tablespoon olive oil

Procedure:

1. Take out preserved cucumber,use about 80g,cut into small grain-shape pieces.

2. Put ground pork in a big bowl, add the above cucumber pieces, add all other ingredients including soy sauce, salt, rice wine, garlic, shallot, cornstarch, olive oil, mix evenly. Marinate for 30mins.

3. Add the mixed ground pork in a heat-proof case, add in a steamer. Steam for 20mins(or until cooked) over medium heat.

4. Turn off heat, serve.

Note: Preserved cucumer can be found in acient shop. Have taste before cook. If the cucumber is salty, then don't add salt or add less.

As preserved cucumber tastes sweet and sour, so this dish tastes fragrance with sweet and sour flavor.

c. Stewed Tofu with Kelp

Ingredients:

1 block of tofu

1/2 cup of kelp,cooked

1 table spoon ground pork(or ground beef)*

1 1/2 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon shallot, chopped

1 teaspoon ginger, chopped

Procedure:

1. Clean kelp, cut into diamond-shape pieces. Cut tofu into small cubes.

2. Heat oil in a wok, add shallot, ginger,let fragrance comes out.

   Add ground meat, stir well.

   Add soy sauce, stir well.

   Add kelp, stir fry several times.

   Add tofu, carefully stir.

   Add 1 tablespoon hot water or stock.

   Add salt, stir well.

3. Cover, simmer with low heat for about 10mins, or until both kelp and tofu get flavor.

4. Turn off heat, pour out, serve.

*Note: If you are a vegen, then don't need to add ground meat.

Serving Method: Serve as main dish at lunch or dinner.

Beneficial Function: Remove heat, remove fat, suitable for obesity, coronary disease and hypertension patients, etc.

d. Mixed Seafood Noodle Soup


Ingredients:

500g noodle

50g cuttlefish

50g clam

50g small shrimp

50g fish ball

50g oyster

50g green vegetable

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 cup stock

1 teaspoon salt

Procedure

1. Clean all the material, remove shell of clam,oyster. Cut cuttlefish into small strips.

2. Boil noodle in a cooker until 80 percent cooked, take out and drain well by strainer.

3. Add stock in a pot, add another cup of water, bring to a boil. Add cuttlfish, shrimp,clam, fish ball, oyster, green vegetable, salt and noodle. Stir well, cook for 8mins over medium heat.

4. Add sesame oil, turn off heat, serve after cool.

Serving Method:

Serve as main food at lunch,or dinner.

Beneficial Function: Reduce cholesterol and blood pressure, suitable for obese people

e. Mixed Seafood Noodle

Ingredients:

Ingredients

100g noodle

20g scallop

20g snail

20g clam

2 medium shrimp

1 tomato,medium

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon shallot, chopped

1 teaspoon ginger, chopped

1 tablespoon olive oil

Procedure

1. Boil noodle in a cooker until thoroughly cooked. Take out,drain well, place on a plate,set aside.

2. Clean scallop, snail, shrimp,clam, remove shell, put in hot water and take out at once, drain well. Cut into small pieces. Cut tomato into small pieces.

3. Heat oil in a wok, add shallot, ginger, let fragrance comes out. Add tomato pieces, stir fry 1mins.

4. Add the above seafood pieces including scallop, shrimp, snail, clam,soy sauce, stir fry 2mins.

5. Add salt, stir fry 2mins.

6. Turn off heat, pour on the noodle, serve.

Serving Method: Serve as main food at lunch, or dinner.

Beneficial Function: Most seafood contains low cholesterol, be helpful for those who are with obesity, hypertension, heart disease, etc. Eating seafood helps to remove wart, especially clam.

4. My story: Don't eat/drink too much cold/iced food

When I was in teenage I liked to drink very cold water, even eat ice blocks. It's very cold in winter in my hometown. We always freezed apple and pears in winter. A kind of pear was called Winter-Pear. It tasted so delicious after being freezed.

Now I understand that the reason I liked to eat cold food is because there was heat in my stomach or lung(in terms of Chinese Medicine). But this brought problem to me. I've been always felt colder than others. At night in cold day, it seems the heat always cannot get to my leg and feet. So I have to cover very thick quilt in winter.

Another problem is that I have blood blocks during menses. It is said blood block is the prime criminal which cause uterine tumor. I resoved it by eating ginger or capsicum during menses. Don't let blood blocks come out as it's so dangerous. Like me, eat some hot& spicy food if you have.

An old chinese doctor gave me a prescription. I'm eating these Chinese herbs for adjustment. The doctor said it needs time and won't be cured in short time. Of course, I don't dare to eat cold food any more.
