No Short Cut to have a healthy body

One of my friend has big tummy. He has a little bit high blood pressure. I suggested him to remove his tummy fat. I think his blood pressure will become lower after his tummy becomes small. I introduced a Traditional Chinese Doctor to him. The doctor suggested him to eat less and do more exercise. He felt disappointed. He complained to me:" The doctor asked me to do more exercise. I don't think he has a good treatment for me." I know what my friend means. He means that if the doctor can cure his tummy he doesn't need to diet any more, neither exercise.

I told my friend:" Your current situation is very bad. Because you didn't pay attention to your eating and exercise you have a big tummy now. It's hard to change by right diet and exercise. The doctor will help you to regulate your health. After your tummy fat removed successfully, if you want to keep your tummy small you still need to control your food intake and do more exercise. No short cut on the road of healthy life." 

That's true,dear friend, you cannot dream one-night-rich. For a healthy body, you also cannot expect a doctor resolves all your problem. You need a long term healthy life style.

1. The Relationship of Jing, Qi, blood and body fluid(V)

In Western medicine, the nutrients that we need are sugar, fat, protein, water, trace element, vitamin, in which sugar, protein and fat are substances that provide us with energy.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the substances that maintain our life activities are Jing(Essence), Qi, blood, body fluid.

The full or loss of the Aquired Essence(Jing) affects the full or loss of Qi and Blood as well as all organ's function and anti-disease ability.

For Qi,Blood and Body, they can transform into each other through qi-transforming activity and depend on each other. If one of them has changed, the other two will make corresponding reactions.

The relationship between Qi and Blood is like Yang and Yin as Qi is active and pertains to Yang while blood is static and pertains to Yin.

The effect of Qi on Blood: Qi produces blood, promotes the circulation of blood and controll blood.

The effect of Blood on Qi: Blood carries Qi and produces Qi.

The relationship between Qi and Body Fluid is the similar to the relationship between Qi and Blood.

The effect of Qi on Body Fluid: Qi produces Body Fluid, promotes the flow of Body Fluid, and control Body Fluid.

The effect of Body Fluid on Qi: Body Fluid carries Qi and produces Qi.

2. Prevent hypertention and prevent a stroke in Spring

In spring our blood pressure fluctuates easily. So those who are with hypertension should be careful.

The temperature in spring changes big which causes the small blood vessel of our body unstable contracting and expanding. Meanwhile there is big fluctuation of our emotion in spring which will cause headache, faint, insomnia,etc.

Besides taking part in appropriate sport activities and taking some medicine under the guide of your doctor, patients with hypertension should eat more fresh vegetables, especially celery. Celery helps to reduce blood pressure. Life regulation should remember the following 8 points:

1). To get up/lie down slowly. Don't sit up as soon as you wake up in the morning. Move about your limbs, head and neck. Sit up slowly. Move about upper limbs and then come down from the bed. The blood pressure won't have big wave if you get up in this way.

2). Using warm water. Either too hot water or too cold water will stimulate skin, causing peripheral blood vessel contracting and expanding, and so the blood pressure will be affected. The best water temperature is between 30C to 35C which is suitable to wash face and gargle. Don't take a shower by hot water. Don't dip yourself in water for too long time. Wash your feet with warm water before going to bed, then massage your feet and lower limb to promote blood circulation.

3). Morning exercise should be slow. Don't do acute morning-exercise. Better morning-exercises are walk and TaiChi which improve the contracting and expanding ability of blood vessel, relaxing arteries of whole body,and thus reducing blood pressure.

5). Limit your amusement. Don't go for too serious sport activities. Don't play bridge or chess too long at one time. Control your mood. Don't be too excited. Don't watch too exciting TV program. Don't continue to watch TV program for more than 2 hours before go to bed.

6). Often drink plain water. Drink a cup of cool boiled water which can help to flush stomach and intestines as well as dilute blood,reducing blood viscosity,smoothing blood circulation, promoting metabolism and reducing blood pressure. Eat digestible food at dinner. Don't be afraid of drinking water or eating congee because of fearing diuresis at night. Non-sufficient water intake will make blood thick and dense and then cause thrombosis.

7). Abstain from smoke and alcohol. The nicotine in cigarettes stimulates heart and cause  faster heartbeat, blood vessel contracting and thus blood pressure rises. Nicotine makes cholesterol accumulated on the blood vessel wall, increasing the risk of coronary artery disease and stroke. Drinking excessive alcohol will speed arteriosclerosis and counteract the function of drugs for hypertension.

8). Eat light. Many fresh vegetables and fruits protect cardiovascular and so should eat more and often. Control salt intake. Eat less oily food. Take Oliver oil as cooking oil.

3. Recipes for prevent hypertension in Spring

a. Celery with Bamboo Shoot Salad

Ingredients:

1 cup celery

1/2 cup bamboo shoot

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon vinegar

1/2 teaspoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

Procedure:

1. Clean celery,quick-boil in boiling water,cut into 1inch long section.

2. Clean bamboo shoot,quick-boil in boiling water,cut into 1inch long section.

3. Mix garlic powder,vinegar,sugar,salt into ingredient sauce.

4. Put celery section and bamboo shoot section in a big bowl,add the above 3 ingredient sauce, stir evenly,sprinkle sesame oil.

5. Let it stay 10mins,serve.

Serving Method:(4 servings)

Serve as side dish at breakfast,lunch,or dinner.

Beneficial Function: Reduce blood pressure,remove fat,prevent angiosclerosis. Suitable for simple obesity,especially those who are also with hypertension,diabetes,atherosclerosis.

b. Stir Fried Tomato with Celery

Ingredients:

1 cup celery

1/2 cup tomato

1/2 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon onions,chopped

1 teaspoon garlic,chopped

1 teaspoon five species

1/3 teaspoon soy sauce

1/3 teaspoon salt

Procedure:

1. Clean celery,drain well,cut into 1 inch long section.

2. Clean tomato, cut the same size as the above celery.

3. Heat the oil in a wok, add onions,garlic,five species,stir 2 times,let the fragrance comes out.

4. Add celery,tomato,soy sauce,stir fry 1mins over high heat.

5. Add salt,stir fry 3mins. Turn off heat,pour in a dish,serve.

Serving Method:(2 servings)

Serve as side dish at breakfast,lunch,or dinner.

Beneficial Function: Clear heat,reduce blood pressure. Suitable for those obese people who are also with hypertension,atherosclerosis,coronary heart disease.

c.Stir Fried Shrimp with Celery

Ingredients:

2 cup celery

10 medium size shrimp(60g)

1/2 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon ginger,chopped

1 teaspoon onions,chopped

1 teaspoon garlic,chopped

1/2 teaspoon soy sauce

1/3 teaspoon salt

Procedure:

1. Clean shrimp,peel,devein. Soak in salt for 10mins.

2. Clean celery,cut into 1 inch section.

3. Heat oil in a wok,add shrimp,stir several times.

4. Add ginger,onions,garlic,soy sauce,stir fry 3mins(or half cooked)

5. Add celery,salt,stir fry additional 3mins,or thoroughly cooked.

6. Turn off heat,pour in dish,serve.

Serving Method(4 servings)

Serve as main dish at lunch or dinner.

Beneficial Function: Ease liver,reduce blood pressure, prevent myocardial infarction, protect  cardiovascular system. Suitable for obese people who are also with hypertension,hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease,etc.

4. Porridge for Spring

It's dry windy in Spring. Especially in south, lots of water lost from our body . In the meantime, liver Yang is vigorous in Spring,so nourishing should be mild. Thus porridge is the best choice at this time.

a. Lotus Seeds with Tremella(White Fungus) Porridge: For Heart-throb and Insomnia

Ingredients:

20g tremella

100g lotus seeds

200g crystal sugar

100g rice

Procedure:

1. Soak lotus seeds and tremella in cold water for 60mins, clean.

2. Add 10 cups of water in a pot,bring to a boil. Add lotus seeds,tremella,rice. Bring to boil again.

3. Turn to low heat,continue to cook 40mins,or until rice and lotus seed thoroughly cooked.

4. Add crystal sugar,cook additional 10mins. Turn off heat,serve.

Serving Methods: Serve with warm at any time.

Beneficial Function: Lotus seeds has the function of nourishing spleen and lung, nourishing heart and smoothing nerve, benefiting kidney and bowels. It can apply to heart palpitations, insomnia,weak,spermatorrhea, excessive leukorrhea, chronic diarrhea,etc. Tremella helps to moisten lung,promote body fluid and relieve a cough.

b. Chinese Date with Sticky Rice Porridge: Supplement Qi and Nourish Blood

Ingredients:

1/2 cup sticky rice
1/2 cup Chinese date
2 tablespoon brown sugar

Procedure:

1. Clean sticky rice and Chinese Date, soak in water for 30mins.

2. Add 3-4 cups of water in a pot, bring to a boil. Add sticky rice, Chinese Date.

3. Bring to a boil again. Simmer for 30mins, or until sticky rice thoroughly cooked. Stir while cooking to avoid burned.

4. Add brown sugar, stir well,continue to cook additional 10mins.

5. Turn off heat, serve with warm.

Serving Method: Serve with warm in the morning.

Beneficial Function: Supplementing deficiency and nourish blood. Suitable for senior people, or those who are weak caused by long term disease, or woman who are blood deficiency after menses or delivery.

c. Yam Porridge: Benefit Qi and lose weight

Ingredients:

50g white rice

500g yam powder

1 tablespoon sugar

5 cups of water

Procedure:

1. Stir yam powder in cold water till evenly.

2. Add water and rice in an electric cooker. Press button,set the right time.

3. When the porridge is done, pour in a pot.

4. Heat the pot, bring to a boil.Slowly add yam while stir until evenly.

5. Add sugar, continue to stir until yam totally cooked.

Serving Methods: Serve with warm at any time.

Beneficial Function: The mucus protein in yam helps to prevent fat deposition in cardiovascular system. It keeps the elasticity of blood vessel,preventing arteriosclerosis,reducing fat accumulating and avoiding obesity.

5. My Story: Making use of sesame oil in Spring

Last month I felt my nose very uncomfortable. I felt pain when inspiring. Mom asked me " Do you feel your nose dryness? Use some sesame oil."  Though I don't know whether it's because of dryness or other reasons, I rubbed some sesame oil inside my nose with cotton stick. It worked. I didn't feel pain any more from the next day.

Actually, sesame oil has lots functions in our life. If your lip is dry you can rub some; If you cough at night drink some sesame oil before sleep and after get up in the morning. After a few days later, your cough will be cured. Drinking a bite of sesame oil before going to sleep at night and getting up in the morning will cure your constipation.

Sesame oil contains much linoleic acid(in unsaturated acid) and vitamin E, so it prevents arteriosclerosis and has function of anti aging.

In daily life, you can use sesame oil when making salad. Add some sesame oil in soup or stir-fried dishes.
