1. About Winter and Regimen

In Chinese Lunar Calendar, winter includes the 10th month, the 11th month and the 12th month.

In 2007, winter is from November 11th to January 6th,2008

Protect your kidney in winter:

In winter,kidney is easy to get disease. Kidney is the root and resource of our life. It stores essence of life, so it's important to protect kidney carefully. Here is the massage method to notify kidney:

  • Hunker quiet on bed and normal breath
  • Rub both hands to warm-hot
  • Press closely to waist point(see picture)
  • Rub 30times with force.

2. About the 10th month and regimen

In 2007,the 10th month is from November 10th to December 9th.

In this month, some organs status:

  • the Qi is weak in heart and lung,
  • the Qi(vital energy) in kidney is strong,

Diet should

  • increase bitter foods intake such as wheat, mutton, almond, and swamp cabbage,etc(protect heart).
  • decrease pungent foods intake such as glutinous millet, chicken, peach,shallot,etc(co-ordinate lung).

This will protect heart and lung, tonify kidney.

Knowlege about food: All the food we eat has its own taste attribute:

Sweet: rice, beef,Chinese date,pumpkin,etc. Function: easy up.

Sour: small red bean, plum, leek(also spicy),haw,etc. Function: converge.

Pungent: glutinous millet, chicken, peach,shallot,etc. Function: dispel.

Bitter: wheat, mutton, almond, and swamp cabbage,etc. Function: dry and solidify.

Salty: soybean, pork meat,chestnut, leaf bean,etc. Function: soften.


3. Winter Recipe: Mutton with Longan and Chinese Date Soup


1.6lb(570g) lamb leg meat

6 tablespoon longan flesh

10 chinese dates

4 pieces ginger

2 section scallion

2 pieces garlic

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon soy sauce


1. Clean lamb leg meat,put in hot water and quickly take out. Cut into bite-size blocks.

2. Heat the olive oil in a wok,add mutton, stir fry until meat color changed.

3. Add scallion,ginger,garlic,soysauce,stir several times.

4. Add longan flesh,chinese dates,move to a casserole pot, add water(3 times of the material in the casserole pot).

5. Continue to cook 3 hours in casserole pot over low heat.

6. Add soy sauce 10mins before turn off heat. Let stay 10mins,serve with warm.

Serving Method:(10 servings)

Serve as main dish at breakfast,lunch or dinner. Eat meat and drink soup.

Beneficial Function: Supplement Qi,nourish blood,warm stomach. Suitable for those who feel cold,blood deficient. And those who are not able to sleep well.

Note: Those who are getting fever are not allowed to eat.

4. Anna's the 10th month recipes:

Previously I always feel colder than others do in winter,especially my feet.

It is said that patients with anemia and gastrointestinal diseases, and those who are deficiency of nutrition,or hypothyroidism cause bad blood circulation of the whole body or local part,or limb twig blood circulation obstacle. All the above cause you feel cold in hands and feet. Especially for women when they are in menstruation, pregnancy, maternity period,they are weak in health,and so easier to feel cold in hands and foot.

If the symptom is not serious,it can be prevented and self-adjusted.

First,strengthening outdoor activities. Especially those whose job have to sit or stand long time should do exercise during work break time, doing more exercise on hands,foot and waist,improving blood circulation.

Second,paying attention to diet. Eating more food whose attribute is warm such as beef,mutton,chicken,garlic,capsicum,ginger,onion,yam,longan,etc.

By abiding by above two rules, I improved my cold resistance a lot. Here are three recipes I always do in winter. Hope these recipes will give you some help,too.

a. Quick Stir-fried Mutton with Ginger Sliver


2 cup mutton slivers

1/2 cup ginger slivers

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 cup shallot,chopped

1 anise star

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon soy sauce

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon capsicum powder(option)


1. Heat oil in a wok,add anise star until fragrance comes out. Take out anise star.

2. Add mutton slivers,stir fry until half cooked(about 3mins).

3. Add shallot,ginger,soy sauce,stir several times;add salt,stir fry 2mins.

4. Add capsicum powder,cumin,pepper,stir evenly,turn off heat,serve warm.

Note: All the procedure is under high heat(quick stir fry). Make sure the mutton is drained well.

Flavor: Very very delicious,you can't resist its tasty temptation.


b. Mutton with wolfberry Soup


1lb(500g) mutton

1 tablespoon wolfberry

1 anise star

1 piece tangerine peel

1 scallion section

2 block ginger

1/2 teaspoon salt


1. Cut mutton into 4 big blocks,quick boil in water,take out.

2. Add mutton in a casserole pot,add water (4 times of mutton).Add anise star,ginger,scallion.

3. Cook 2 hours with lid on over low heat.Skim foam at the first 30mins.

4. Add wolfberry,tangerine peel, salt,continue to cook 30mins over medium heat.

5. Turn off heat,let rest 5mins,uncover,remove fat,serve with warm.

Serving Method:(10servings)

Serve as main dish at lunch. Eat meat and drink soup.


c. Three Fragrant Piquancy


1 cup peanut(or flex seed,or sesame seed)

3 red capsicum(choose types you like)

1 big scallion

1/3 teaspoon salt


1. Bake peanut until crisp and cooked. Bake red capsicum until crisp and almost burned. Bake scallion until the outer layer burned,take away the burned layer.

2. Mash peanut, capsicum and scallion,add salt,mix well,serve.

Serve as side dish or sauce. I.E,serve with bread or rice,or meat.


If you don't like mutton,or you are a vegetarian,then you can try leek porridge. Or you like fish, then you can try the following fish tofu soup.

d. Crusiancarp with Tofu Soup


1 crusiancarp(about 1lb),cleaned

1 box tofu

1 block ginger

1 shallot section

1 tablespoon vinegar

1 teaspoon rice wine

1/3 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil


1. Boil a pot of water. Cut ginger into several flakes.

2. Heat the oil in a wok,spread the ginger flakes on the bottom of the wok.

3. Add fish in the wok and on the ginger flakes.Pan-fry 3mins for each side(don't let burned).

4. Add hot water,cover 3times of the fish. Add shallot,vinegar,tofu,cook 30mins over low heat.

5. Add rice wine,salt,continue cook additional 10mins over medium heat.

6. Turn off heat,let stay 5mins,serve.

Serving Method(10 servings):

Serve as main dish at lunch or dinner. Eat fish and tofu,drink soup.

Beneficial Function: Contain high quality protein,easy to be digested and absorbed,suitable for those who are with hepatitis,nephritis,hypertension, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Crusiancarp soup is always used for women in maternity period,or other patients who feel very weak. Crusiancarp cooks with tofu is the best combination.


5. Romove fat and help to protect your stomach in Holiday

I know almost everyone is preparing holiday food with great joy.

In holiday,there are so many delicious food,no one can resist the temptation.

But after enjoying the food,you may feel too fatty,eating too much. Your stomach may protest to you and won't work properly.

Here I prepare two recipes to help you to digest well and fresh you taste.

a. Hawthorn with Wheat Bran Cake


2 cup hawthorn

1/2 cup wheat bran

3 cup water

2 tablespoon crystal sugar(white sugar instead if don't have)

1 table lotus root powder(cornstarch instead if don't have)


1. Clean hawthorn,cut out 1/3,the other 2/3 contains kernel,remove. Put all the removed kernel hawthorn in a mixer,beating into hawthorn paste.

2. Add water in a saucepan,add hawthorn paste,cook until buble comes out.

3. Add crystal sugar,cook 20mins over low heat.

4. Mix lotus root powder with cold water,stir well. Add in the saucepan,stir and cook over medium heat.

5. Turn off heat, pour in a case or a cake model. Cool,put in frig. Cut into small blocks when serve.

Serving Method:(10 to 15 servings)

Serve as after meal sweet. Don't eat too much each time.1 teaspoon each time. Less than 1 tablespoon per day.

Beneficial Function: Invigorate spleen,help to digest,remove fat,relieve food stagnation.


b. Stir-fried Green Pepper with Tomato


2 fresh tomato

1 big green pepper

1 tablespoon,chopped

1 teaspoon olive oil

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/3 teaspoon soy sauce


1. Clean tomato and green pepper,cut into bite-size pieces.

2. Heat oil in a wok,add onions,add green pepper,stir several times.

3. Add soy sauce,salt,add tomato. Stir fry 3mins.

4. Turn off heat,pour in a dish,serve.

Serving Method: (3 servings)

Serve as side dish or appetizer.

It's fresh and must be the savory and appetizer among so many dishes.

By the way, drink some green tea and leaf lotus tea(best is made by yourself) after meal will help you remove grease, and help you not gain so much weight during holiday. About lotus leaf tea,pls visit webpage:
