There is a story about a Monk and a poet. The monk and the poet are friends. They always joke at each other. One day, they did zen medication. The poet asked the monk " What did I look like when I did Zen medication?"

The monk said" You looked like a noble Buddha."

The poet felt very happy.

The monk asked the poet:"How about me?"

The poet wanted to anger the monk deliberately:" You looked like a pile of cattle shit"

The monk smiled without saying anything.

When going back home the poet told his sister the whole story and thought that he won today. His sister laughed:"You lost! The monk has Buddha in his mind, so he saw you like a Buddha; You have cattle feces in your heart so you saw him like cattle feces!"

"Aha?!" The poet suddenly understood.

1.Zangxiang theory- The Spleen(VI)

The spleen is the source of Qi, blood and body fluid. It's the required base of life.

The physiological functions of the Spleen

a. To govern the transportation and transformation

The spleen can digest food, absorb nutrients of food and water, and then transport them to the heart and the lung.

The rest of the water used by the organs and the tissues of our body is transformed into sweat and urine to be excreted out of the body. This process is under the cooperation of lung and kidney.

The transporting and transforming functions of the spleen rely on the warming function of spleen Yang and the propelling function of spleen Qi.

The movement of spleen Qi is marked mainly by elevation.

Failure function of spleen's transportation and transformation may lead the following symptoms:

-Anorexia,abdominal distension,abdominal pain and loose stool;

-Phlegm,rheum and edema;

-Dizziness and spiritual lassitude;

-Visceroptosis, prolonged diarrhea and proctoptosis.

b. To command blood

The spleen controls blood circulation inside the vessels and prevent it from flowing out of the vessels.

To command blood also includes that the spleen function of producing blood by transporting and transforming food nutrient.

Deficiency of spleen Qi and spleen Yang will impair the function of the spleen to command blood, leading to hematochezia,hematuria, sudden profuse uterine bleeding and subcutaneous purpura.

The relationships between the Spleen and the body, the sensory organs and the orifices

The Spleen governs the muscles and the four limbs, opens into the mouth, manifests on the lips.

If the function of spleen is abnormal it'll lead to emaciation, lassitude of the limns or even atrophy of the limbs;or anorexia,no taste in the mouth,greasy and sweet taste in the mouth; or pale,lusterless or even sallow lips.

2. Anna's 9th Month Recipes

It's the 9th month in Chinese calendar from Oct.18th to Nov.16th. From this month Yang Qi begins to decline and Yin Qi begins to increase. Be careful big winds during this month. We should eat more sweet-flavor foods such as pumpkin,sweet potato,beef,etc while eat less bitter-flavor foods.

a.Stewed Beef with Pumpkin

Ingredients:

500g beef

2 cup pumpkin,cut into small cubes

Seasoning A

2 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon rice wine

Seasoning B

2 garlic cloves

2 shallot sections

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon rice wine

2 aniseed

Seasoning C

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon shallot,chopped

1 teaspoon garlic,chopped

1 tablespoon olive oil

Procedure:

1. Clean beef, cut into small cubes. Marinate in Seasoning A for 20mins, better over night in fridge.

2. Add beef in a wok,add water(cover beef). Add seasoning B. Turn on heat,bring to a boil.

3. Turn to low heat,continue to cook 60mins. Pour in a big bowl.Throw away aniseed,garlic cloves and shallot sections. Seperate beef and beef soup.

4. Clean the wok,put on medium heat,add olive oil after dry. Add seasoning C,stir fry till fragrance comes out. Add beef,pumpkin cubes.

5. Simmer while add beef soups till pumpkin is cooked. Pour in a plate,serve.

Beneficial Function: It's the best time to eat beef in cold days. Beef helps us to improve anti disease ability,warm stomach and restore energy. Pumpkin can prevent diabetes,hypertension and cancer. It's also a food for beautify skin.

b.Stir fried Beef with Carrot

Ingredients:

250g beef(must tender)

1 carrot,medium

Seasoning A

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon rice wine

1 tablespoon cornstarch

Seasoning B

1 teaspoon garlic,chopped

1 tablespoon shallot, chopped

1 teaspoon ginger,chopped

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon five-flavor pepper or cassia powder

Seasoning C

1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with water

1 1/2 tablespoon olive oil

Procedure

1. Clean beef,cut into thin strips,marinate in Seasoning A for 20mins.Clean carrot,cut into thin strips(same size as that of beef strips).

2. Heat oil in a wok,add beef,stir fry several times.

3. Add seasoning B, carrot strips. Stir fry till cooked. (Add a tablespoon stock or water if dry).

4. Add seasong C,stir well. Turn off heat,pour in a dish, serve.

Beneficial Function: To improve anti-disease ability, prevent arteriosclerosis and hypertension.

c.Stir fried Lotus Root with Bell Pepper

Ingredients:

250g lotus root

1 bell pepper

Seasoning A

1 teaspoon garlic,chopped

1 tablespoon shallot,chopped

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

Seasoning B

1 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch,mixed with water

1 teaspoon rice wine

1 teaspoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sugar

2 tablespoon olive oil

Procedure:

1. Clean lotus root and bell pepper,cut into small chips.

2. Heat oil in a wok,add seasoning A. Let fragrance comes out. Add lotus root chips and bell pepper chips. Stir fry 3mins. Add a tablespoon stock or water if dry.

3. Add seasoning B. Stir fry till cooked. Arrange in a dish, serve.

Serving Method: Serve as side at breakfast,lunch or dinner.

Beneficial function: To remove summer left heat, prevent diabetes,constipation,etc.

d.Ground beef with radish

Ingredients:

100g ground beef

1 cup radish,minced

Seasoning A

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon curry sauce

1 teaspoon garlic,chopped

1 teaspoon shallot,chopped

1 tablespoon olive oil

Seasoning B

1/4 teaspoon salt

Procedure:

1. Mix Seasoning A in ground beef,stir well. Marinate for 20mins

2. Add radish and seasoning B, stir evenly.

3. Scoop two tablespoon meat mixture in left hand,press into a meat cake by using right hand,repeat the rest meat mixture. Arrange meat cake on a plate one by one.

4. Place the plate on the tray of a steamer,steam for 10-15mins.

5. Turn off heat,take out the plate(be careful! hot). You serve with sauce, or put in a sandwich.

Serving Method: Serve as main/side dish at lunch or dinner.

Beneficial function: Radish helps to reduce fat,soften blood vessel,maintain blood pressure at a stable level,prevent coronary artery disease,arteriosclerosis and gallbladder stone disease,etc.

4. My story: Cure small sickness by yourself in nature way

For some days last month I felt head heavy,eyes hot,throat pain and teeth pain. I knew I was worried about something,plus the Autumn dryness. These caused internal heat/fire inside my body.I had yellow nasal mucus which signs heat symptom.

I made a therapy plan for myself.

Eat at least 1 bowl rice porridge(nourish lung) each day;

Drink Grosvenor Momordica Fruit(Luo Han Guo), one each day;

Drink Egg white with crystal sugar and sesame oil every morning;

Make Pear with crystal sugar drink, eat pear and drink soup each day.

I knew my worry is big and so the "fire" is big too. So I bought a patent Chinese medicine "Niu Huang Jie Du Wan". It contains Chinese rhubarb which will cause diarrhea if eating too much. I decided to eat only one pill each day.(Though it suggests 3 times a day and 2 pills each time).

Guess what? I was cured 3 days later. You can try the above recipes if you have the same problem as me.
